The Minister of Justice Albulena Haxhiu expressed skepticism that they will receive a response from the Ministry of Justice of Serbia regarding the sending of the letter requesting the transfer of four Albanian prisoners on suspicion of war crimes.
Haxhiu emphasized that Serbia constantly refuses to have legal cooperation with the institutions of Kosovo, for which she mentioned the non-handover of criminals for war crimes in Kosovo as well as those for the terrorist attack in Banjska.
In the context of the journalists’ questions, after the event that Haxhiu had organized with donors for the “Strategy for Transitional Justice”, she said that Brussels was informed about the sending of this letter through the deputy prime minister and other representatives.
In addition to these, the Minister of Justice Albulena Haxhiu considered that the imprisonment of Albanians there with the claim of war crimes is deliberate, political, and unjust.
Among other things, Haxhiu was asked if Kosovo should pay lawyers for the remaining Albanian prisoners in Serbia, as it is claimed that Serbia pays for the detainees detained by our country.
In this regard, Haxhiu stated that they have received requests from the families of the arrested, but emphasized that there is no law that gives the Government of the Republic of Kosovo the right to financially support the defenders of persons who are held in Serbian prisons.
She added that the MoJ is dealing with this issue as well.
