Ganimete Musliu to Vetëvendosje MPs: “Today you are in power, tomorrow it could be us”

The reporting of the Commissioner of the Agency for Information and Privacy at the Committee on Security Issues was marked by a debate between MPs from the ruling majority and the opposition. The head of the agency, Krenare Sogojeva Dermaku, presented the annual report before members of the Committee on Security Issues, which was followed by criticism from opposition MPs.

Earlier, Commissioner Sogojeva Dermaku informed the committee about the number of complaints regarding access to public documents and the protection of personal data.

“During the reporting period January–December 2025, we received a total of 1,085 complaints across both pillars. Of these, 927 complaints relate to access to public documents. It is worth noting that 832 out of the 927 have been resolved, while the rest have been carried over to 2026 due to the inability to review all of them within 2025, mainly because of the very small staff and the continuously increasing number of complaints. What I would like to emphasize is that citizens’ awareness regarding their right to access public documents has increased significantly, and naturally the number of complaints has also risen year by year, as reflected in the report since 2021, with an increase of 200–250 complaints per year. As for personal data protection, the number of complaints stands at 158, while in total we conducted 367 inspections, both ex officio and based on submitted complaints,” she said.

The report was criticized by Ganimete Musliu of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), who described it as self-praising and raised doubts about the institution’s full independence.

Commissioner Sogojeva Dermaku responded to these criticisms, calling them “personal tendencies.”

Following the exchange, MP Musliu reacted again, telling the commissioner that “your aggressiveness toward my analysis speaks for itself.”

The debate continued further, with Shqipe Mehmeti Selimi of the Vetëvendosje Movement stating that Musliu’s remarks were written with artificial intelligence.

Meanwhile, Albana Bytyqi of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) also addressed the commissioner’s response following Musliu’s criticism.

“To behave in that way when you have grounds to confirm what the MP in question did not say, I do not find it reasonable for you to get so heated and use those offensive words. It is surprising to take it personally—‘you did this to me, you did that to me.’ I do not find it very reasonable. If you have facts regarding the report, you can simply confirm them,” Bytyqi said.

The debate went even further when Musliu, addressing MPs of the parliamentary majority, said that one day their time in power would come to an end.

These remarks prompted a response from the chair of the committee, Mefail Bajqinovci.

“I want to respond to MP Musliu, who said ‘today you are in power, tomorrow you are not.’ No one denies you the floor—please, let me speak now. In this committee that I chair, no one denies you the right to speak. The rules of procedure grant you that right, and nothing has been denied to you for you to say that you are in the majority and doing whatever you want. Please, Gane, you said it—you have the right to comment and ask questions, so do not claim that you do not have the opportunity,” he said.

The Committee on Security Issues then continued the meeting behind closed doors.
