President Vjosa Osmani has stated that if the Assembly of Kosovo is not constituted by July 26, the deadline set by the Constitutional Court, there should be legal consequences for MPs.
She emphasized that a case is being prepared for constitutional interpretation regarding the political crisis, and if institutions are not formed over the upcoming weekend, the matter will be referred to the country’s highest legal authority at the beginning of next week, KosovaPress reports.
In a press conference held on Thursday, Osmani listed a series of questions that, according to her, require constitutional clarification from the Constitutional Court regarding what happens after July 26.
Despite five months having passed since the February 9 elections, the Assembly of Kosovo has still not succeeded in electing its legislative bodies, which would then pave the way for the formation of a new government.
At the end of June, the Constitutional Court issued a ruling obligating MPs to constitute the Assembly by July 26. Nevertheless, with less than ten days remaining before the deadline, there is still no agreement on electing the Speaker of the Assembly or the other parliamentary bodies.
She said the case for the Constitutional Court is being prepared and warned that if no institutions are formed by the end of the weekend, the issue will be submitted early next week for interpretation.
While speaking about the Constitutional Court’s ruling, which states that a certified MP cannot hold executive positions, Osmani remained reserved. She said that dissatisfied parties can address the Constitutional Court.
