The EU Mission for the Rule of Law, EULEX yesterday reinforced its Specialized Police Unit with a reserve unit of 23 gendarmes from the Italian Carabinieri.
In a press release, it is announced that the Reserve Specialized Police Unit (RFPU), consisting of 23 gendarmes from the Italian Carabinieri and members of the European Gendarmerie Force (EUROGENDFOR), was temporarily deployed in Kosovo to strengthen the capacities of the Police Unit Specialists existing of the European Union Mission for the Rule of Law in Kosovo (EULEX).
It is known that the RFPU was deployed in Kosovo in response to the Mission’s need to have additional forces on the ground and to better support our Kosovar counterparts, if this is required and if necessary.
The regular EULEX RFPU, consisting of 105 Polish police officers, is stationed in Mitrovica and is the second security responder in Kosovo, which is an integral part of the three-tier mechanism of security responders, where the Kosovo Police is the first security responder, EULEX is the second and NATO/KFOR is the third, says the announcement.
