Demiri: We are ready to form the institutions and the Government of Kosovo

The representative of the VAKAT coalition, Rasim Demiri, expressed his readiness to cooperate with the outgoing Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, to form new institutions after the February 9 elections.

Demiri made this statement after his meeting with the leader of the Vetevendosje Movement (LVV), Albin Kurti, which took place as part of ongoing meetings with minority communities to form the new government, KosovaPress reports.

“Earlier, when both the Kurti I and Kurti II governments were in power, we had cooperation with the Prime Minister. I hope that we will have cooperation again now. Today we had an important meeting, we discussed many things. Both the Prime Minister and we are ready to form the institutions and the Government of Kosovo,” he said.

He stated that the creation of a Bosniak community municipality is not a condition, but he welcomed the opportunity to discuss this topic with the leader of LVV, Albin Kurti.

We in VAKAT are the ones who must and will ask for it because we have received the trust of the people. What others have done, making it a condition for forming the government after the elections, now, as we have seen today, it is not a condition, but a request. This is manipulation of the people who live in that area… The address for the municipality of Recan is the VAKAT coalition… It cannot be a condition, we never had it as a condition, and even earlier when we requested it, it was not a condition. It just pleases me that there is space to discuss the municipality,” he said.

A Kosovo office in Bosnia and Herzegovina is a request that the VAKAT coalition addressed to Kurti, and according to Demiri, it has received a positive response.

“What we have requested from the Prime Minister, we have asked for the Republic of Kosovo to have an office in Bosnia and Herzegovina, just like we have one in Greece. We discussed this with the Prime Minister, it was a proposal from the VAKAT coalition, and the Prime Minister accepted it. I believe that Bosnia and Herzegovina will have an office here in Kosovo, and the Government of Kosovo will have an office in Sarajevo. The Prime Minister accepted it, and I believe we will make it happen,” he said.

When asked if they would vote for any government formed by the opposition, Demiri said that the party will decide on this.

Today, Kurti also met with Fikrim Damka from the Democratic Turkish Party of Kosovo, the chairwoman of the Social Democratic Union party, Duda Balje, as well as the chairman of the United Roma Party of Kosovo, Albert Kinolli.

Yesterday, Albin Kurti announced that he has started consultations with non-majority communities to form the new government. He said on Wednesday that he met with the chairwoman of the New Democratic Party (NDS) from the Bosniak community, Emilija Rexhepi, the chairman of the Party for Freedom, Justice, and Survival from the Serbian community, Nenad Rashiq, and the chairman of the New Democratic Initiative of Kosovo (IRDK), Elbert Krasniqi, where they discussed the formation of the new government.

It is worth noting that the Vetevendosje Movement (LVV) won the parliamentary elections on February 9 with 42.3%. The second-place finisher is the PDK with 20.95%, followed by LDK with 18.27% and the AAK-Nisma coalition with 7.06%. Based on these figures, LVV will have 48 deputies, PDK 24, LDK 20, AAK-Nisma 8, and the non-majority communities will have 20 reserved seats.
