Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated that with the 2025 Budget Law, under which the caretaker government is currently operating, the government can continue only until February. Therefore, he emphasized, the institutions must be constituted as soon as possible.
Speaking in Podujeva about the steps toward forming the new government, Kurti told KosovaPress that the composition of the next government will include many of the names he and the Assembly Speaker, Glauk Konjufca, presented last autumn, though the lineup will not be identical.
“There will be many of the names that Konjufca and I presented last autumn, but it won’t be identical; there will also be other names. We are preparing first to constitute the Assembly and then quickly form the new Government. As you know, we have three international agreements with the World Bank and a Growth Plan with the EU amounting to €882.6 million, which must be approved in the Kosovo Assembly as soon as possible, not forgetting that this is our main obligation—the budget for 2026. You know that under the 1/12 rule, a caretaker government can only continue until February; by March it cannot continue this way, so the budget issue must be finalized in February,” Kurti said.
Asked about a meeting with President Vjosa Osmani to discuss the election of the president, Kurti said that will be the fourth step after the government is formed.
Kurti made these comments during a visit to the “Isa Boletini” school in Podujeva.
