Police officers have been working for 24 years now without health insurance. Many police officers with chronic diseases, some of them with disabilities and over 4,700 with injuries while performing their official duties, have been waiting for their health insurance to be completed after the last protest last year but that so far nothing has been undertaken to fulfill this request.
While the party in power has emphasized that this matter is being taken seriously, the opposition has stated that the party in power has not undertaken anything for the Kosovo Police.
The head of the Kosovo Police Union, Imer Zeqiri, said that the discussions with the Government of Kosovo are continuing, but that so far there is nothing in favor of the police.
He said that the Kosovo Police are waiting for the law on health and life insurance to be made.
Zeqiri added that the policemen work in bad conditions, and that they should be improved starting with health insurance, salary and others.
Zeqiri has called for the drafting of the health insurance law as soon as possible because many police officers are resigning due to poor working conditions.
The former director of the Kosovo Police also says that the issue of health insurance for Kosovo police officers is not being addressed by the Government. Rashit Qalaj says that the issue of health insurance for Kosovo police officers is not being addressed by the Government, as they are reluctant to realize this necessary need.
Meanwhile, the deputy chairman of the Kosovo Security Commission from the Vetëvendosje Movement, Enver Dugolli, said that the Kosovo Police will soon have the health insurance service.
He said that there is a special fund for the health treatments of the Kosovo police and that health insurance is also being worked on.
Meanwhile, the most elite unit of the Kosovo Police, known as FIT, in the last three months of last year, held a protest in front of the Government of Kosovo to express their dissatisfaction with the working conditions.
In this protest, about 14 requests were submitted, among them health and life insurance. /A.Drenica/
