Currently, the situation in Kosovo is calm. This is what the commander of KFOR, Major General Ferenc Kajari, who will hand over his futies tomorrow, declared. During his 1-year term, there were many developments in the field of security, such as the war in Ukraine or the riots in the north on the night of July 31.
The commander of KFOR, in an interview for KosovaPress, admits that the war in Ukraine increased tensions in Kosovo as well, but that these have now decreased significantly. According to him, there is no increased security threat to Kosovo due to developments in Ukraine.
Kajar says that in general, the security situation in Kosovo is stable, including the northern municipalities with a Serbian majority. In this part of the country, the night of July 31 was not so peaceful, as the warning about reciprocity on license plates caused roads to get blocked and people with guns to appear.
Major General Kajari does not want to hold anyone responsible for the developments at the end of July in the north, but says that politicians should be careful in their statements in order not to escalate the situation.
He says that the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue mediated by the European Union is the right platform to raise all issues and avoid riots.
