Among hundreds of citizens, today on the 16th anniversary of the declaration of Kosovo’s Independence, the statue of commander Adem Jashari was inaugurated in Mitrovica.
In a speech, the representative of the Jashari family, Rifat Jashari, congratulated all Albanians on February 17, the Independence Day. He also wished that “we can enjoy this statue and all the others together”.
At the inauguration ceremony of the statue, the mayor of Mitrovica Municipality, Bedri Hamza, said that the sacrifice of the Jashari family symbolizes and synthesizes the history of all Kosovo families for freedom.
He said that rarely in the history of nations and humanity, the Jashari family stood heroically and became martyrs for the freedom of Kosovo, facing the Serbian army and police.
Hamza added that this sacrifice became an inspiration and a mobilizing force for the boys and girls of Mitrovica who fought with dignity for the freedom of Kosovo with weapons in hand.
Meanwhile, regarding the inauguration of the statue of Adem Jashari, the mayor of Mitrovica said that this statue symbolizes the realization of our ideal for freedom.
Among other things, the mayor of Mitrovica and at the same time the initiator for the placement of this statue, said that the just fight of the KLA became the main voice of the people in the international arena, for which he added that this fight was supported by the most advanced democracies of the globe.
He emphasized that on the occasion of the unveiling of the statue of the legendary commander Adem Jashari, “we bow before the blood of the martyrs and express deep gratitude to the allies of Kosovo’s freedom, the United States of America, the countries of the European Union and NATO”.
Hamza said that today, when Kosovo celebrates 16 years of independence and enjoys a quarter of a century of freedom, President Hashim Thaçi, Speaker of the Assembly, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi, Rexhep Selimi and others are facing an unfair trial in The Hague.
Among the those present, the son of Hamëz Jashari, Bekim Jashari, the PDK MP, Bekim Haxhiu and the former mayor of Mitrovica, Agim Bahtiri, were also present at this ceremony.
