Recounting by the end of January, Elezi says when the final results will be announced

The Central Election Commission (CEC) is planning for the announcement of the final results of the early elections for the Assembly of Kosovo to take place at the beginning of February this year, KosovaPress reports.

However, according to the CEC, the announcement of these results may come only after the completion of the recounting process of more than 1,800 remaining polling stations, which is planned to be concluded by the end of January.

This was confirmed to KosovaPress by the CEC spokesperson, Valmir Elezi, who spoke about the work dynamics at the Counting and Results Center.

“Currently, the number of teams engaged in the recounting process during a working day is 76. Based on this capacity and the number of polling stations remaining to be recounted, we are planning and making efforts for the entire process to be completed by the end of January,” Elezi said.

Elezi stated that the CEC will announce the final result after the completion of the recount, which according to him may reduce the need for complaints, as the recounting process can remove all doubts regarding the results.

“After the completion of the recounting process, the CEC will announce the final election result. As provided for in the Law on General Elections, political entities and candidates will be able to submit their complaints regarding this result to the Election Complaints and Appeals Panel (ECAP) and, eventually, the process may continue to the Supreme Court. Naturally, the recounting process removes all doubts regarding the results and this may also reduce the need for complaints, but the CEC must wait for the deadline for the submission of these complaints and their review before proceeding with the certification of the final election result and, at the same time, the conclusion of the electoral process,” Elezi added.

According to the data, the recounting process of polling stations is continuing at the Counting and Results Center, which is being carried out based on two decisions of the Central Election Commission. In total, the recounting process will include all 2,557 polling stations where the regular election process was held on December 28, 2025.

According to the first CEC decision, dated January 13, 2026, the recounting of 914 polling stations was foreseen, while with the second decision, dated January 19, 2026, it was decided to include an additional 1,643 polling stations, thus expanding the process in its entirety.
