On May 15 (Wednesday), for the sixth time in a row, the chief negotiators of Kosovo and Serbia will meet in Brussels, regarding the CBK Regulation prohibiting the use of the dinar in Kosovo. After the end of the transition phase of the Central Bank, the ruling party emphasizes that there is no alternative that prevents or postpones the decision on the dinar. On the other hand, experts of the dialogue process are optimistic that in tomorrow’s meeting an agreement will be reached on the dinar issue. During the day, the mediator of the European Union for the dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, appeared optimistic.
Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi’s participation in the Brussels meeting has been confirmed for KosovaPress by his adviser, Klisman Kadiu, but he did not provide any other details regarding the possibility of reaching an agreement.
Meanwhile, the VV MP, at the same time the chairperson of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Arbëreshë Kryeziu-Hyseni, tells KosovaPress that the decision to ban the use of the Serbian dinar in Kosovo will not be extended or canceled just because it does not suit Serbia.
According to her, the executive is ready to cooperate in terms of providing assistance to Serbian citizens living in Kosovo, so that the conversion to euro is as easy as possible.
On the other hand, the political analyst, Fidan Ukaj, tells KosovaPress that there will be a silent agreement on the dinar issue.
On May 12, the transition phase undertaken by the CBK for the regulation ended, therefore one of the mitigating measures was the non-application of fines and measures, such as the ban on the import of foreign currencies for entities that operate with cash in accordance with The Law on the Central Bank and other laws in force.
On the issue of the dinar, the parties met five more times in Brussels, but they failed to reach a compromise agreement. With the new regulation of the Central Bank of Kosovo (CBK), the euro was designated as the only currency in Kosovo for cash payments from February 1.
