The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, accompanied by her husband, exercised her constitutional right to vote.
After voting at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Prishtina, she said that today citizens are deciding not only who will lead the municipalities where they live but also for a better future for themselves.
President Osmani expressed confidence that today’s electoral process will also be free and democratic.
“Today is just as important as the first round of elections, because our citizens are ultimately deciding not only who will lead the municipalities where they live, but also a better future for our children, and opportunities for the municipalities where they reside. Therefore, I hope that every eligible citizen will exercise this right and go out to vote today. Kosovo has the strongest electoral democracy in the region, and this is precisely because of the participation of our citizens in voting, the regularity of the electoral processes, and because we always organize free and democratic elections. I am confident that today will be the same. Free and democratic elections will be held, where every citizen can exercise their constitutional right to decide on the municipality where they live, the services provided, and better opportunities for everyone,” she said.
When asked about the potential impact of these local election results on the national level, she said that these are separate processes and that local elections do not affect national processes.
She added that the timing of national elections depends on the political parties represented in the Assembly of Kosovo.
“These are completely separate processes. Naturally, local elections do not affect the national-level processes we are undergoing. National processes are being carried out fully in accordance with the country’s Constitution, and we will see in the coming days what will happen. What is important is that Kosovo demonstrates maturity in every election, shows respect for citizens, and upholds the right to vote. Therefore, not only do the results of local elections or their organization have no connection to national elections, but national elections, whenever they occur, will also be another cornerstone of the democracy we have built over many years. I am very proud of the citizens of Kosovo, who are the main contributors to democracy in the country,” Osmani stated.
The second round of local elections is being held in 18 municipalities.
The total number of eligible voters in these 18 municipalities is 1,316,672.
