The Assembly of Kosovo has approved the agreement on Kosovo’s membership in the Peace Board. Membership in this international mechanism was said to strengthen Kosovo’s position and open opportunities for securing new recognitions. However, opposition parties accused the ruling majority of delaying the procedures to give the green light to the agreement.
The Peace Board is an international mechanism envisaged in a United Nations Security Council resolution adopted in November 2025, aimed at overseeing the temporary administration of Gaza and rebuilding civilian institutions.
Former Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani was one of 19 world leaders who signed the establishment of the board on January 22 in Davos, aimed at rebuilding Gaza after the devastating two-year war. The multilateral initiative includes countries from different regions of the world, among them seven states that do not recognize Kosovo, such as Argentina, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Mongolia, and Uzbekistan.
Arbëreshë Kryeziu-Hyseni, an MP from the Vetëvendosje Movement, welcomed the agreement and stressed the need for its approval.
The importance of approving the agreement on Kosovo’s membership in the Peace Board was also highlighted by Ilmi Recica, an MP from the Democratic Party of Kosovo, who criticized the government for delaying the procedures.
Support on behalf of the Democratic League of Kosovo was also expressed by MP Anton Quni, who said that Kosovo is “renewing its image in the eyes of the world.”
Time Kadrijaj, an MP from the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, also stressed the need to approve the agreement, calling it an act of special importance.
Meanwhile, Haxhi Avdyli, an MP from Vetëvendosje, credited former President Vjosa Osmani for Kosovo’s membership in the Peace Board.
In addition, the Assembly also approved the agreement on the ratification of Amendment No. 2 to the financial agreement between Kosovo and the European Union for the IPA 2020 program, as well as Amendment No. 1 for the IPA 2019 program, second part, Objective 1.
