On the 27th anniversary of the Battle of Koshare, Kosovo’s former president, Vjosa Osmani, said that April 9 marks one of the most historic days that has left a lasting impact on Kosovo’s freedom and independence.
She stated that in Koshare, Albanians from all territories came together and fought to remove the unjust border between them, restoring national dignity.
“Today, on April 9, Kosovo marks not only Constitution Day, but also one of the most historic days that have shaped the freedom and independence of our state. In Koshare, Albanians from all lands united. The best sons and daughters of this country fought to remove the unjust border between Albanians, and on that day they not only eliminated the physical border, but also restored our national and state dignity. The Kosovo Liberation Army here in Koshare, as in every part of our country, proved that the price of freedom is high, but it is a price worth paying so that today’s generations — the grandchildren of the brave men and women of Koshare whom we met today — can live with dignity, live free, and live on their land, the land of their ancestors, without fear and equal to all others,” she said.
The former president added that the Battle of Koshare has left a legacy to safeguard the state as the “apple of the eye.”
“Koshare has entrusted us with Kosovo, it has entrusted us with Albanian identity, and today we must protect this legacy as the apple of our eye and ensure that Kosovo moves forward, in honor of the memory left by the fallen, the heroes, and the martyrs of freedom,” she said.
