In the Municipality of Dragash, they consider that they are stuck around economic development, since last year there were many requests and donors, who wanted to invest millions of euros in livestock, tourism and renewable energy, but due to the lack of property, these investors have been returned.
This is what the mayor of Dragash Municipality, Bexhet Xheladini, said in an interview for KosovaPress, while he considers the water supply project as the biggest project.
Xheladini also talks about the “fate” of the municipality’s properties, as well as the decision of the Municipal Assembly of Dragash, that the property which includes the National Park, be transferred from the Privatization Agency of Kosovo (PAK) to municipal property, caused the latter to send lawsuit in court.
Among other things, during the interview, the first of Dragash also mentions the insufficient support from the government for this municipality, for which he emphasizes the need for the approval of the fourth grant, because according to him, this would achieve financial equality between the municipalities.
In addition, the mayor of Dragash, Bexhet Xheladini, said that due to the lawsuit of the Privatization Agency of Kosovo (PAK), against the municipality for some properties, he was forced to return some investors.
He says that the trial process started a month ago, for which he hopes that these properties will be returned to the municipality.
Meanwhile, the allocation of the 2024 budget for municipalities is considered unfair by the mayor of this municipality. According to him, the government should approve the fourth municipal grant as soon as possible in order to achieve financial equality of the municipalities.
Xheladini points out that the government should be involved in the allocation of additional funds for capital investments, because according to him, municipalities that have small own incomes are most in need of such support.
Also, he emphasizes that the Municipality of Dragash has taken a decision against waiving the property tax, for which he says that a different action would halve its own revenues.
The Mayor of Dragash announced that they are awaiting the signing of the contract as the winner of the performance grant, based on the external auditor’s report for this municipality.
