CEC decides a vote recount for 50 polling stations

The Central Election Commission (CEC) decided on Monday that the votes for political entities in 50 polling stations will be recounted at the Center for Counting and Results. Fifteen of these stations belong to various municipalities, while 35 others are solely from the municipality of Vushtrri.

This decision came after inconsistencies were found in 15 polling stations, where there was a mismatch between the number of signatures on the Voter List and the number of ballots inside the ballot box.

For the other 35 polling stations in the municipality of Vushtrri, the CEC made this decision due to “notable differences in the votes for candidates.”

CEC member Arianit Elshani stated that these two recommendations came from the Election Operations Council, which advised a full recount for all political entities distributed across Kosovo.

“Fifteen polling stations were identified, where discrepancies were found regarding one or two signatures on the voter list, and one or two ballots more or less in the ballot box. For these 15 polling stations, as recommended by the Election Operations Council, it was suggested that a full recount be conducted for all political entities across Kosovo. A second recommendation came from the report we received regarding the results of LDK candidates from the polling stations in Vushtrri, and it was suggested that 35 polling stations, where differences in candidate votes are noted, be fully recounted,” said Elshani.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Office for Registration, Certification, and Financial Control of Political Entities, Besnik Buzhala, added that the Secretariat is ready to start the recount of these polling stations today at 16:00.

“The Secretariat is ready to start the recount of the ballot boxes today at 16:00. Accredited observers from political entities and other organizations will also be notified. As for the evaluation of ballot boxes across Kosovo, which total 177, I inform you that yesterday, on March 9, 2025, at 14:32, we received the PZAP decision, and after the appeal deadline to the Supreme Court expires, we can begin opening the 177 boxes to assess the invalid ballots, in line with the PZAP decision, or at the latest, by Wednesday morning,” added Buzhala. /A.
