Can the Assembly initiate a parliamentary inquiry into Simmons’s allegations?

The reporting of the former Chairman of the Assembly of EULEX Judges, Malcolm Simmons, before the Committee on Legislation of the Assembly of Kosovo may lead this institution to form a committee of inquiry into Simmons’s allegations. This follows the latter’s statement that if the committee decides to open a full investigation, it will provide details and documentation to support his claims. A week has passed since Simmons reported to the MPs of the committee for legislation, and from the position they say that no parliamentary inquiry committee has been discussed, as there has been no such request.

While the opposition says that they will see the legal possibilities for initiating a parliamentary investigation. However, experts in the justice system state that Kosovo can not take such a step due to its obligations under international agreements. Democratic Party of Kosovo MP, Hajdar Beqa says for KosovaPress, that Simmons statements are disturbing, while adding that the EULEX mission has lost credibility.
