Ahmeti: There are successes in foreign diplomacy, the priority is safety

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Kreshnik Ahmeti, says that Kosovo has achieved success in foreign diplomacy during 2023.

According to him, the commitment is daily to ensure new recognition and membership in international organizations, which would strengthen the international subjectivity of Kosovo.

He mentions Greece as an opportunity that can recognize Kosovo, as he emphasizes that the relations between the two countries have become very close.

Speaking about the dialogue, he accuses Serbia of not implementing the basic agreement, while he says that the basic priority at this stage is the security of Kosovo.

Ahmeti in an interview for KosovaPress says that Kosovo has already been established as a reality in the international arena, but adds that new recognitions cannot come “in waves” as they were after the declaration of independence.

In addition, Ahmeti is optimistic that in 2024 there will be positive movements regarding Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe. He declares that the report of the eminent jurists of the Council of Europe for Kosovo has been positive and that there are no conditions regarding the dialogue with Serbia.

Diplomat Ahmeti considers it necessary to give the “green light” to Kosovo as soon as possible in terms of obtaining the status of a candidate country for membership in the European Union.

However, he criticizes the European Union for the punitive measures against Kosovo, which according to him are harming the country and giving the wrong signal to the entire region.

On the other hand, Ahmeti says that the circumstances regarding the draft statute of the association of municipalities with a Serbian majority in Kosovo have already changed, after the declaration of the EU emissary for dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, which is an internal issue of Kosovo.

According to him, Prime Minister Albin Kurti is ready to make a draft of the association, in cooperation with the relevant ministers.

Meanwhile, it warns that Serbian terrorist groups are continuing preparations for other possible attacks on Kosovo.
