On September 26, 1991, a referendum was held to declare Kosovo an independent state. On this day, with an absolute majority, the people declared in favor of Kosovo’s independence, in which case the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo were ratified, which were approved a year before and were followed by the holding of the first democratic, parliamentary and presidential elections in 1992.
