International Students’ Day commemorates November 17, 1939, when Nazi forces intervened at the University of Prague after student demonstrations against the invasion of Czechoslovakia and executed without trial the nine leaders of the student demonstrations.
They also sent over 1,200 students to concentration camps, closed all universities, and turned them into military barracks.
