With the “Pads are not a luxury” campaign, the Center for Critical Information and Action (QIKA), on World Menstrual Hygiene Day, have launched a one-week campaign with the aim of removing the 18% tax from Kosovo institutions for menstrual pads.
According to the organizer from QIKA, Medinë Dauti, it is very important that the tax be removed because, as she said, menstrual pads should not be considered a taboo or a luxury, but should be accessible to every woman for free or reduce the tax for these products.
She also emphasized that QIKA has tried in the last four years to create campaigns to remove the stigmatization of the menstrual cycle and for Dauti it is important that the institutions deal with this problem as soon as possible.
While for some of the citizens, these campaigns that have been undertaken by the QIKA organization are quite targeted and embrace the idea created for the distribution of free menstrual pads for women.
For Shefkie Deliu, this campaign is good and the awareness of the citizens should be continued and greater support should be given to the female gender in relation to the menstrual cycle.
The “campaign against poverty and stigmatization of menstruation” will continue to be accessible to citizens for a week in a row, in which free menstrual pads will be given in order to raise awareness and remove taboos related to the menstrual cycle.
