Were domestic violence survivors employed with the government measure?

At the end of 2023, the Government launched the employment measure for women survivors of violence. This measure aimed to employ them and reintegrate them into the labor market. The Ministry of Justice has not announced how many of them have been employed during this time. Meanwhile, non-governmental organizations are not satisfied and say that the small number of applications is worrying.

As part of the measure “Support for the employment of women victims of domestic violence”, it was envisaged that the government would cover 70 percent of the gross salary up to 300 euros per month for a period of six months.

The Director of the Center for the Protection of Women and Children, Zana Hamiti, says that last year around 150 women and children were sheltered. Most of the survivors of domestic violence, as she adds, live in difficult economic conditions.

“It has not turned out as we expected, but we hope that perhaps other conditions will be created, because only one of the components that satisfies the victims is employment. Most of them do not even have a place to live, with this salary they cannot become independent to pay the rent, to live with how many children they have, two or three, children. The cost is still unaffordable”, says Hamiti.
