Sadije Godeni was killed with an ax by her husband while she was asleep. Hamide Magashi, pregnant, was killed by her husband in the courtyard of the University Clinical Center, but Liridona Ademaj also lost her life from the murder ordered by her husband. These are just some of the women victims in Kosovo; since only from January to October of this year, four women were killed, and 2186 cases of domestic violence were recorded, where 1763 of them are women and girls.
The Kosovo Police in a written response to KososvaPress said that in 2023, during the period January-October, 2186 cases of domestic violence were recorded, while 4 cases of serious murder occurred.
During the year 2022, 2765 cases of domestic violence were recorded. The victims of these cases were 2288 women and 517 men (some cases had more than one victim). There have been 7 cases of “serious murder” (murder within the family), in these seven cases, 8 victims (one case with two victims), 4 men and 4 women, have been recorded. During the period January-October 2023, 2186 cases of domestic violence were recorded. The victims of these cases were 1763 women and 497 men (some cases had more than one victim). There have been 4 cases of “serious murder” (murder within the family), in these four cases 5 victims (one case with two victims), 2 men and 3 women, have been identified,” the police responded in an email.
The security expert, Nuredin Ibishi, said that as a state we should be more proactive in preventing these cases from ending up with violence.
Ibishi appealed to undertake a campaign of handing over illegal weapons because murders, robberies and threats are usually carried out with those weapons.
He also focused on the last case, the murder of Liridona Ademaj, where this was an extremely serious case, while he praised the professionalism and commitment of the Kosovo Police.
Psychologist Petrit Thaçi said that murder is the ugliest explosion of instinct and that recently the criterion of these acts has lost its validity.
In 2022, around 48,800 women and girls around the world have been killed by their partners or family members. While for the year 2023 there is still no accurate data.
