The dinar has tested the relations between Kosovo and the United States of America, but America remains the most important partner for trade relations with our country.
The United States of America, in addition to being a strategic ally for our country, is also the main partner for the export of Kosovo’s goods to American markets.
In January of this year, the value of goods exported with the countries of the world reached 20.1 million euros, or 33.4 percent.
Exports of goods with these countries have a symbolic figure, but as the Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) informs, the most important partners with the countries of the world for export were the USA with 14.6 percent and Switzerland with 9.3 percent in January 2024, writes KosovaPress.
Data from the Foreign Trade of Goods in Kosovo show that Kosovo’s exports to EU countries reached 18.4 million euros, or about 30.5% of total exports, with a decrease of 6.9%.
“The main partners for the export of goods to the EU were: Germany (8.8%), Italy (4.7%), the Netherlands (3.1%), etc.”, reports KAS.
Meanwhile, Kosovo’s imports from EU countries were around 164.4 million euros, or 43.3% of total imports, with an increase of 10.1%.
“Imports with the highest participation were from: Germany (12.8%), Greece (7.2%), Italy (3.7%), etc.”.
Meanwhile, this year, Turkey continues to remain the main partner for the import of goods.
Only during the month of January 2024, Kosovo’s imports with other countries of the world reached 158 million euros, or 41.6 percent.
“The countries with the highest import share in this group were: Turkey (15.4%) and China (11.3%),” says the KAS report on foreign trade.
Meanwhile, Kosovo’s exports with CEFTA countries reached 21.8 million euros, or 36.1 percent of total exports, with a decrease of 16.2 percent.
“The main export partners from the CEFTA countries were: North Macedonia (12.4%), Albania (11.8%), Serbia (6.3%), Montenegro (3.9%)”, it is stated in the KAS report for the month of January.
Meanwhile, imports from CEFTA countries reached 57.7 million euros, or 15.2% of total imports, with a decrease of 5.8 percent.
“The countries with the highest import participation were: Albania (7.6%), North Macedonia (4.7%), Serbia (1.9%),” the report states.
Meanwhile, what remains worrying is that this year too, a decline in the value of goods exported to the country has begun.
The export of goods in January of this year was worth 60.3 million euros, while the import was 380 million euros, which is a decrease of 3 percent for export as well as a 7.4 percent increase in import, compared to the same period of 2023.
According to the data of the main export groups: 25.4% are base metals and their articles; 19.3% are various manufactured items; 13.1% consists of plastics, tires and their articles; 8.3% are prepared foods, drinks and tobacco; 6.2% is made up of machinery and mechanical and electrical equipment, etc., it is stated in the report “Foreign Trade Statistics (STJ), January 2024”, of KAS.
According to the report of the Kosovo Agency of Statistics, data from the Foreign Trade of Goods in Kosovo indicate a higher trade deficit of 9.9 percent in January 2024, compared to the same period in 2023, i.e. in the value of 319.7 million euros, compared to the deficit of 291.5 million euros in 2023. According to KAS, export covers import by 15.9 percent.
According to the data of the main import groups: 17.2% are mineral products; 11.6% are prepared foods, drinks and tobacco; 11.6% is made up of machinery and mechanical and electrical equipment; 11.2% are the means of transport; 9.3% are base metals and their articles, etc. writes KosovaPress.
