The Minister for Local Government Administration Elbert Krasniqi has stated that the ministry he leads has not received any official notification regarding the initiative for the dismissal of the mayors of four municipalities in the north through a petition as provided by administrative instruction.
His declaration comes after the northern Serbs have formed their own groups, through which they have submitted requests to the chairpersons of the municipal assemblies in the four northern municipalities, for the dismissal of the chairpersons of these municipalities through a petition.
Krasniqi explained that the Administrative Instruction clearly defines the procedure for initiating, organizing and submitting the citizens’ initiative for the removal of the mayor from office.
He said that each citizen or group of citizens with the right to vote in the respective municipality has the right to take the initiative to remove the mayor of the municipality.
“The request for removal must be signed by at least 20% of the voters with the right to vote and must contain all the elements and data according to this Administrative Instruction. Citizens interested in initiating this procedure establish the initiator group, which before starting the collection of signatures must notify the Chairman of the Municipal Assembly, who then notifies the Ministry of Local Government Administration (MLGA) and the CEC”, writes Krasniqi on Facebook.
He emphasized that they are aware of the reports in the media that signatures have been collected from ‘an initiator group’, but that the Ministry of Local Government Administration has not received any official notification regarding this initiative from the chairmen of the Municipal Assemblies of the respective municipalities or members of the initiating group as provided by administrative instruction.
