An initiative of the Socialist Party in Albania for the dismissal of President Ilir Meta, is expected to deepen the political crisis in Albania. Meta is being accused by the Socialists of not fulfilling his constitutional duty to guarantee national unity before the elections, leaning towards the opposition. The socialists, in an extraordinary session, which will be held on June 9, are expected to approve or reject a report of the Commission of Inquiry, which has identified the violation of 16 articles of the Constitution by Meta in the general elections of April 25.
Regarding the latest political developments in Albania, KosovaPress has conducted an interview with the director of the Institute of Political Studies in Tirana, Afrim Krasniqi, who is describing as completely political the war between Meta and the Socialists. While clarifying the procedures that will be followed until the final verdict of this case, Krasniqi added that the initiative as such aims to defactorize the institution of the president.
