Heads of state in Kosovo on Monday remembered the centuries-old sacrifice of the Albanian people for freedom and independence. President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti participated in the solemn raising of the flag, on the 17th anniversary of independence.
Osmani said that “there is nothing that can stop a free and sovereign Kosovo”.
“It is a day when we remember the centuries-old sacrifice that our people have made, so that we can enjoy this day. It is a day when we celebrate the successes that our Republic has achieved in these 17 years, strengthening sovereignty, strengthening statehood and international subjectivity, strengthening the rule of law, democracy and the economy, but it is also a day when we say from the bottom of our hearts, a lasting gratitude to all those who sacrificed, and gave everything so that today we can celebrate this holy and historic day together. Starting from the architect of independence, the historic president, and the legendary commander Adem Jashari who led the KLA, to every citizen of our republic who sacrificed with effort and blood, so that today this day can be enjoyed. We will move forward because there is nothing that can stop our free, independent, sovereign and eternal republic, congratulations,” said Osmani.
The country’s Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, said that Kosovo’s economy “is three times bigger than it was 17 years ago, but at the same time we are an example of security.”
