The Government of the Republic of Kosovo has held an electronic meeting in which it has approved in principle the initiative for the membership of the Republic of Kosovo in the Council of Europe.
The Council of Europe is the oldest intergovernmental organization in Europe whose main purpose is to ensure cooperation and unity among its members in the field of protection of human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
“Human rights and fundamental freedoms are guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, which incorporates Council of Europe conventions, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights. Human Rights and Elementary Freedoms and its Protocols”, it is said in the communiqué of the Government.
The decision adopted today obliges the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora to conduct all membership procedures based on the legislation in force.
