Since February, no survivor of sexual violence has had the opportunity to file a request for status recognition by the state. With the end of the deadline for application, the government commission dealt with the old cases of people who previously applied. Currently, the amendment of the law is in the process, which allows the deadline to be extended for two years only. Organizations in Kosovo and Bosnia-Herzegovina are expressing criticism and opposition to this proposal, as they say it is insufficient and does not convey a good message to the victims of sexual violence of the war. The Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, told KosovaPress that the extension of the deadline for two years is a request of the Government Commission to Recognize and Verify Survivors of Sexual Violence During the Kosovo War.
