The dinar continues to circulate in the north

The decision of the Central Bank of Kosovo, according to which the Serbian dinar will be withdrawn from circulation, has not prevented the citizens of the north of Mitrovica from paying with dinars for the things they have bought in various shops.

Milorad, one of the rare citizens from the north of Mitrovica who agreed to speak in front of the camera, told KosovaPress that he is aware of the decision of the Kosovo government to ban the use of dinar, but that even today he bought the necessary things with dinars.

He said that he will respect the decision of the government of Kosovo when all the citizens of that part respect it.

Meanwhile, an Albanian owner of a shop in the “Bosnian Quarter” neighborhood in the north of Mitrovica, said that the customers today paid in euros, but the Serbs paid more in dinars.

A similar situation regarding the circulation of the dinar is reigning today also in the municipalities of Leposaviq, Zveçan, and Zubin Potok, inhabited by a Serbian majority population.

Otherwise, the country’s authorities said on Wednesday that from February 1 (today) the Central Bank’s regulation on cash payments in the country will come into force, but they left open the possibility of a transitional period to resolve the concerns of the Serbs, who continue to use the dinar. They called this transition period an easy transition, without specifying how long this transition period will last. /A. Damati/
