The loan and grant agreement for the “Solar for Kosovo-Central Heating” Project was signed today.
The project as a whole has a value of 80 million euros, which is why it is considered important for the capital and for air protection.
The Minister of Finance, Labor and Transfers, Hekuran Murati, has said that there are two grant agreements and that this project will save energy for the largest extension of central heating.
“This project is the first in the region, which uses solar energy to a large extent. The project as a whole is worth more than 80 million euros. The project as such is unique, it represents one of the largest capacities for solar heating, and which is saved to be used for central heating for 38,000 citizens who did not have access to central heating before,” said Murati.
The EU ambassador in Kosovo, Tomas Szunyog said that Kosovo has great potential for energy and it is important to have other alternatives for thermal energy.
“It is a very important moment for us to have solar energy. 37 thousand citizens will benefit from the supply of green energy. The EU also supports Kosovo for sustainable development. These projects will have a long-term impact. Kosovo has great potential for energy, but you can do even more for the transition”, he stated.
The deputy ambassador of Germany in Kosovo, Matthias Conrad emphasized that this is very good news and a step forward.
“I want to congratulate all partners for this cooperation. Our country is committed to helping Kosovo, this is our biggest commitment of the Berlin process for the Balkans, for Kosovo in particular. Germany has played a leading role in the last two decades in the development of energy. The experience with the energy crisis has shown that it is important to accelerate the finding of other sources”, he said.
