The head of the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Abelard Tahiri, today called on all political parties to support PDK’s request for early elections through the dissolution of the Assembly.
He emphasized that the Assembly of Kosovo has degraded to the point where “it can barely hold on for another eight months” until the regular elections.
Tahiri’s comments come after the plenary session, where three years of government were to be discussed, failed due to the lack of a quorum. This session was invited at the request of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo.
PDK’s MP has said that they support AAK’s initiative for the dissolution of the Assembly since the Kurti Government cannot pass international agreements without the opposition, while it does not even have the votes to approve draft laws with a simple majority.
According to him, more important than how to go to the elections are the elections themselves and the creation of a new Government, because this will get Kosovo out of the sanctions, the severe economic situation, from the collapse in many sectors.
The PDK MP has warned that an agreement should be reached on the dissolution of the Assembly by May 30, in order to go to new elections in June or July.
The parliamentary debate has failed after Speaker Glauk Konjufca announced that only 40 MPs were present at the session.
