Tahiri: Kurti has accepted the Association, he is not establishing it because of the elections

The head of the Parliamentary Group of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Besnik Tahiri, says that Prime Minister Albin Kurti has accepted the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian Majority, but because of the elections, he is not establishing it.

He accuses the head of government of trying to send the country to early elections on July 7 for his own political purposes. According to Tahiri, Prime Minister Kurti wanted to touch the feelings of the citizens by using the parade of the KSF and the police on the 25th anniversary of the liberation and to open the Ibar Bridge before the elections, but as he says, the opposition did not fall into Kurti’s trap.

Tahiri in an interview for KosovaPress says that the Government of Kosovo should come up with its own draft regarding the association, while he considers that the idea of the EU draft being submitted to the Venice Commission is just a “joke” of its own kind.

The head of the AAK MPs asks the European Union to remove the punitive measures against Kosovo as soon as possible.

In addition, Tahiri says that the delegation of the Assembly of Kosovo next week will be in Strasbourg, where they will look at the possibilities of inviting an extraordinary meeting of the Committee of Ministers for the membership of Kosovo.

However, he adds that Kosovo will have difficulty being included in the agenda without a consensus of the member countries of the Council of Europe.

Tahiri calls their condition for proceeding with the draft association statute proposed by the EU in the Constitutional Court unfair.

Speaking about the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Tahiri considers it necessary for the European Union to change its approach after the elections of new structures in September.

The Deputy Prime Minister and at the same time the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Donika Gërvalla, told KosovaPress a few days ago that the government will consider the EU draft for the association only if Serbia fully implements the Brussels basic agreement and the Ohrid annex. /E.
