The Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, has stated that it is high time for the Kosovo Prosecutor’s Office to start filing indictments regarding the persons who participated in the attack in Banjska on September 24 of last year. He said there is enough evidence and recordings to file charges.
Minister Sveçla, while reporting to the Committee on Security and Defense Affairs, for the 2023 annual work report, said that this institution is doing well, while adding that in the Kosovo Police, capital investments have increased, but according to him, the procedures have also been accelerated.
After the presentation of the report by the minister, the Vetëvendosje MP, Enver Dugolli, asked for an explanation from the minister Sveçla, why no indictment has been filed for the case of Banjska. He also raised the issue of supplying patrol units with long guns.
Regarding the attack in Banjska, Sveçla said that it is high time for the Prosecutor’s Office to start filing indictments or at least a final report, adding that the international partners should also be officially informed of what happened in the case of the attack in Banjska.
According to him, the best way to prevent these types of attacks from happening is to pursue those who participated in this attack.
Among other things, he emphasized that the delays and tolerance from “someone else” has encouraged them to come and carry out the case in Banjska.
Meanwhile, regarding long weapons, he said that they are in the process, and that all patrols will be equipped with them.
Meanwhile, the PDK MP, Rashit Qalaj, has expressed concern about the traffic situation. He has accused the Ministry of Infrastructure of not being able to achieve the planned objectives. Likewise, driving schools, according to him, should have a stricter approach.
Meanwhile, he said that the salary coefficient for firefighters has not yet been adjusted.
For this, Sveçla said that they will be managed and paid from the central level.
He also said that they are reviewing their demands with the Police Union, but reiterated that not all of their demands can be fulfilled because the financial burden prevents them from doing so.
Meanwhile, the chairman of this committee, Bekë Berisha, asked if the UK has any initiative to add any other privileges to the KP, as well as regarding emergencies.
For this, Minister Sveçla said that they are discussing with the KP union about a series of steps in terms of privileges regarding this institution.
