Sejdiu: The doors to NATO and the Council of Europe should be opened for Kosovo

Former President of Kosovo, Fatmir Sejdiu has stated that a new momentum should be created in the international arena, which would be in function of concluding open topics. According to him, the door must be opened for Kosovo to join NATO and the Council of Europe in order to maintain peace and stability in the Balkans.

At the Balkan Leadership Conference “Peace, Security and Development in the Western Balkans”, of the Universal Peace Federation, he said that the European Union should move faster towards the integration of Kosovo.

“It is a crucial moment for the European Union and other European institutions and beyond, to extend assistance, support and faster movement towards Kosovo’s integration into them. It is not a question of whether we will be a member of them because war will break out, it is a question of a productive approach, essential to the incorporation of this part of Europe, since we are also geographically in its association, or its full integration, rather than to leave and question what we have in Ukraine today. Is the European Union late with the accession of Ukraine to the European Union or not, the conflict was rushed to the other side so that such a thing does not happen that is extremely dangerous today for the people of Ukraine, but it is also dangerous in terms of what is claimed to be derived from this conflict”, he said.

Sejdiu added that Kosovo should be in NATO, since according to him, only in that way, the roads that are open by those who do not want order and peace could be closed.

“It is imperative of the time to create a new momentum at the international level, which would be in function of concluding open topics, the dialogue that is protracted as a result of the careful treatment of the careless, those who through threat kept alive the ideas of old friendships. Therefore, apart from considering it appropriate, I also consider necessary that the doors to NATO, the Council of Europe and in any international organization should be opened for Kosovo, in this way it would help maintain peace and stability in the Balkans”, said Sejdiu.

This conference is organized by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF), in partnership with the KosovaPress News Agency, the Washington Times Foundation, the International Media Association for Peace (IMAP), and the International Association of Youth and Students for Peace (IAYSP).
