The Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, has stated that the demand for electricity by households has decreased, while consumption by businesses has increased, for which she estimated that all this reflects the increase in economic activity.
During her report to the Committee on Economy regarding the realization of the ministry’s projects for 2023 and the work plan for 2024, she said that based on the checks on the ground that KEDS carried out last year, a large number of electricity thefts have been identified.
Speaking about electricity consumption, Rizvanolli said that other consumers who pay for it are also being stolen.
Regarding the decrease in energy consumption, the chairman of this commission from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Ferat Shala, said that this is related to the large number of citizens who have migrated over the last two years.
MP Shala’s statement was contradicted by Minister Rizvanolli, who said that even if those with zero consumption are included, there is a 7 percent reduction in the energy sector in just two years.
While reporting to the Economy Committee, she said, among other things, that the company “Iber Lepeci” is an enterprise that over the years has had losses of around 2 or 3 million euros for which she said that for the first time after 2008, there was a profit last year.
