Pupovci: The Teachers Union must not make blackmailing demands, the strike harms the students

A strike has been announced for the next week in the education sector due to non-passage of the Wages Law, through which, education workers claim wage increases. The Ministry of Education assesses the strike as harmful after the difficulties with the pandemic, while asking The Teachers Union for understanding and not to make blackmailing demands like the one for 100 euros every month until the adoption of the Law on Wages.

The Deputy Minister of Education, Dukagjin Pupovci, in an interview for KosovaPress said that more time is required in drafting the final draft of the Law on Wages as an acceptable formula must be found for all categories of public employees, who will be included in this law.

Last week, The Teachers Union and several other unions protested and one of the demands was 100 euros every month until the Law on Wages is approved. However, for Pupovci this request is unacceptable and blackmailing. According to him, this union should be more understanding.

The Teachers Union has announced a strike since April 20, but for Pupovci this will affect the students the most. According to him, a strike, after a two-year period with the difficulties brought by the pandemic in education, would also damage the education system.
