For Teacher’s Day, no gifts of any kind will be distributed anymore. This was decided this year by the Municipal Directorate of Education of Prishtina and other municipalities of Kosovo. In their decision, it is emphasized that teachers can only accept flowers and books as gifts from students.
Valmira Morina, an activist in civil society, submitted this request on her Facebook status.
Morina told KosovaPress that parents have recently started giving expensive gifts, so she addressed this concern to the Municipal Directorate of Education (MDE) to stop this trend, since all students should feel equal.
Remzi Bajselmani, the director of Education in the municipality of Suhareka, told KosovaPress that this decision was made so that all students have equal rights.
The Director of Education in Gjakova, Eranda Kumnova Baçi, says that the municipality made such a decision three years ago, and that school students do not have the right to give teachers gifts of more than 50 euros.
However the teachers receive it, it is an article based on the law and I say in complete generality that every law of the Republic of Kosovo must be respected. We try. From the parents, we received more congratulations and good words for such a decision,” said Baçi. Among the municipalities that have addressed requests for consideration of this decision are the municipalities of Prishtina and Istog. The Kosovapress team tried to get an answer from the municipality of Prishtina, but the latter did not return an answer.
