Even after almost two years, the citizens of Skenderaj have still not been compensated for the damages caused by the rainfall. As the first port of call for citizens, since February 2023, they have been addressing the municipality with complaints to forward them to the central level. In addition, this municipality, led by the opposition, considers that it has been discriminated against in terms of budget allocation and projects.
This is what the mayor of Skenderaj, Fadil Nura, says in an interview for KosovaPress, while underlining that “government support has been zero during this mandate”.
In addition, Nura talks about expectations from the elections of February 9, 2025, mentioning single-source contracts, corruption and affairs as the main failures of the Kurti government.
“A challenge for us, not only for us as a local government but for all municipalities, has been the collective agreements in education, which have affected us in terms of the implementation of capital projects. Because the budget has been taken from capital projects and other categories, which has challenged us in this regard… We still have challenges and problems inherited from the floods we had two years ago… From the central level, exceptionally, households have been compensated by 70-80 percent. Meanwhile, businesses, public infrastructure and agriculture and a fairly large part have not been compensated at all. Are there any complaints in the municipality about this? Of course, citizens are directly asking the municipality for answers, for which in this case, the legal responsibility lies with the Government of the Republic of Kosovo at the national level. Have you made any requests for this? “Of course, we have forwarded the reports, along with the requests and as required by the legal procedure, to the central level and there has been no response in this regard yet,” says Nura.
