The decision of the Municipal Assembly of Mitrovica that Sunday is a day off for many services, especially those with food items, has made the life of the citizens of this Municipality extremely difficult.
During an interview with KosovaPress, they expressed the necessity of traveling to neighboring municipalities to obtain essential food supplies.
Sami Leku, a citizen from the south of Mitrovica, announced that he needs to go to different markets in Northern Mitrovica every Sunday, to supply his family with basic food items.
Veton Syla also said that the citizens of the south of Mitrovica have a hard time on Sundays, because they have to go to Northern Mitrovica or Vushtrri, to buy basic food items for their families.
According to him, it would be good to open at least one of the big markets on Sundays so that citizens can be supplied with basic life items.
Meanwhile, Bashkim Brahimi, owner of a market in the south of Mitrovica, emphasized that the decision of the Municipal Assembly that Sunday is a day off, is a bit ‘heavy’ both for business owners and for citizens in general.
He emphasized that there are many complaints from citizens because they are being forced to go outside Mitrovica to buy milk, oil and similar food items.
If it continues like this, added Brahimi, he will be forced to close the business, because, as he said, the work has dropped too much.
On the other hand, the director of the Directorate of Inspection in Mitrovica, Valon Brahimi, said that this is the decision of the Municipal Assembly which the Directorate of Inspection is obliged to implement, but stated that there is an opportunity for a more detailed analysis of the situation in order to change the regulations in force.
According to him, the Directorate that he leads is powerless to change the regulation, but it can send its recommendations based on the situation on the ground, while the Assembly still has to decide whether or not to change this regulation.
