In the extraordinary session of the Municipal Assembly of Prishtina, the head of the assembly members of VV, Gëzim Sveçla, proposed that today the decision be taken in favor of property tax forgiveness in the amount of 100 euros. The Democratic League of Kosovo group boycotted the session, for which it received criticism from representatives of other parties present. In this session, the mayor of the capital, Përparim Rama, is not present either.
Meanwhile, part of this extraordinary session are the assembly members of PDK, LVV, AAK and AKR, who had continuous replies to each other regarding the decision to forgive the property tax for citizens for the year 2023.
The head of assembly members from VV, Gëzim Sveçla, while reading the proposal for the property tax forgiveness, said that such a thing applies to all taxpayers and that the amount for the property tax forgiveness will not be more than 100 euros.
Sveçla emphasized that in case the taxpayers have paid the tax invoice for the real estate for 2023, the amount forgiven should be calculated as an advance for the following year.
Regarding this proposal, the assembly member of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Leotrim Retkoceri, said that proposals that do not aim to protect the public interest will not be approved, while adding that they are ready to make proposals for the protection of citizens from the increase of the enormous property tax value.
Meanwhile, the retorts between Retkoceri and Sveçlahave continued, until it was discussed whether the law on property tax forgiveness should be valid only for this year, or it can be continued for the future.
Meanwhile, the representative from the group of assembly members of AAK, Bahri Gashi, said that he supports the proposal for the property forgiveness of 100 euros, since according to him, this proposal is a help for the citizens of Prishtina.
Also, the representative of the AKR group, Gëzim Mhemeti, spoke in favor of the property tax forgiveness, as he criticized the LDK group for boycotting the session.
Likewise, Endrit Zabërxha from Nisma said that they are in favor of property tax forgiveness in the amount of 100 euros.
Meanwhile, the Director of Finance, Valbona Makolli, said that if the decision is taken in favor of property tax forgiveness, it will cost the municipality over 9 million euros in losses for 2024.
The Constitutional Court of Kosovo decided weeks ago that the decision of the Government of Kosovo on property tax forgiveness, through changes in the Law on Property Tax, does not infringe on municipal responsibilities.
The increase in property tax invoices occurred after the general assessment of land and residential buildings, which was done by the Ministry of Finance, Labor and Transfers at the end of last year. /KosovaPress
