Kurti: We expect maximum punishment for the perpetrators of the crime of the murder of Liridona Ademaj

A minute of silence was held at the opening of the regional conference “United against violence – Enough!”.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti asked those present to observe a minute of silence for Liridona Ademaj, who was killed days ago.

Kurti has demanded a full clarification of this case and severe punishment for the killers. The leniency of the sentence, as he said, is causing the repetition of these cases.

Kurti also recalled that some of the most serious cases during the war in Kosovo were when Serbian forces raped girls and women, and in many cases in the presence of family members, for which he said, that this phenomenon must disappear forever.

He also mentioned the case of the 14-year-old girl in Skopje, for which he said that meritorious punishments are needed.

The chief executive added that in this regard they have improved access to social services by raising support for these services and ensuring financial stability for shelters for survivors of domestic violence through an increase in the budget and a special budget line for them.

Among other things, he emphasized that at the beginning of the global campaign last year, a woman was killed with an ax, and a few days later Hamide Magashi, who was pregnant, was also killed.

Also, the Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, said that they expect the maximum punishments for the killers of Liridona Ademaj, who was reburied yesterday in her native village.

Haxhiu emphasized that during these days the program for employment of victims of domestic violence will be launched.

Meanwhile, the former president of GREVIO, Iris Luarasi, said that in this regard, the Istanbul Convention is widely recognized as the fairest legal instrument.
