The “Heroinat” memorial is being requested to be included on the list of cultural heritage under protection. The Kosova Rehabilitation Center for Torture Victims (KRCT) with an open letter addressed to the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the Assembly, the Minister of Culture, the Mayor of Prishtina and the Kosovo Council for the Cultural Heritage, has requested that this space be taken care of. On the contrary, the director of KRCT stated that it proves the carelessness of the sacrifice of thousands of women and girls during the last war in Kosovo. She emphasized that this memorial often has inscriptions that do not match the nature it represents.
The director of KRCT, Feride Rushiti, said that we cannot move forward without honoring the thousands of women who were sexually violated during the last war in Kosovo.
Further, Rushiti said that this initiative has been supported by two survivors of sexual violence, Vasfije Krasniqi-Goodman and Shyrete Tahiri-Sulimani, and many other non-governmental organizations.
On International Women’s Day, Rushiti emphasized that the war wound of thousands of sexually abused women during the war is still kept isolated in the family.
The “Heroinat” memorial is built from over 20,000 medals, which symbolically honor the contribution and sacrifice of Albanian women during the last war in Kosovo. Also, the memorial commemorates the horror caused by the Serbian aggressor. /Sh. Pajaziti
