In the Infectious Diseases Clinic, they state that so far, they have not confirmed any cases of the West Nile fever virus, but they are ready and prepared to treat any patient who may eventually be affected by this virus, which has already reached Balkans.
The infectious disease specialist at the Infectious Disease Clinic, Murat Mehmeti, in an interview for KosovaPress, stated that the West Nile fever does not spare any age from infection, but the elderly and people suffering from any chronic disease are more at risk.
“So far we have not had any confirmed cases, although we have had and continue to have cases of meningitis from time to time, and we always test these people for many viruses that can cause a brain flare-up, respectively of bacteria and in this case we also test for the West Nile virus, but we are talking about this year or this period when there are a lot of mosquitoes and the possibility of spreading is greater, so far we have not had any case of West Nile virus… We generally treat the consequences in terms of treatment, brain edema, symptomatic treatment and we as a clinic without any doubt that we are ready to treat every possible case in the best way and we are prepared without any doubt”, said Mehmeti.
