The Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK), after the protest of the residents of the village of Shipitulle of the Municipality of Obiliq, issued an announcement regarding land expropriations.
“Kosovo Energy Corporation.. once again informs the residents around the field of operations who are expressing their dissatisfaction about the expropriation process through protests, that the acquisition of land for mining needs (through Relocation/Expropriation) by KEK is done only based on the Main Mining Plan and in the legislation in force, including the Displacement Policy Framework (DPF), the Law on Expropriation of Immovable Property in Kosovo and the Law on Mines and Minerals (MMM)”, reads the announcement.
Also in the announcement it is stated that regarding the residents’ concerns (claims) regarding the process of expropriations, KEK has addressed them all to the relevant justice bodies.
“Therefore, regarding the acquisition of lands and the expansion of mines (for other reasons), which are not in accordance with the Main Mining Plan, and other operational plans, we again inform you that this issue is beyond the competences and interest of KEK j.s.c”, the announcement concludes.
Dozens of residents of the village of Shipitulle of Obiliq protested in front of the KEK offices in Prishtina. Residents have requested a meeting with the KEK board regarding land expropriations.
