Journalist opens an exhibition; proceeds go to charity for Ukraine

Ukrainian journalist and artist Lyudmila Makey has opened her solo exhibition “Bright on Black” today, with the proceeds being donated to charity in Ukraine.

Makey has displayed several of her self-painted artworks at the National Library of Kosovo “Pjetër Bogdani” in Pristina, with each piece priced at ten euros.

The journalist and writer, Lyudmila Makey, shared that there has been great interest in purchasing her paintings since the opening of the exhibition.

She emphasized that the proceeds from this exhibition will be sent to support the Ukrainian army. Makey also mentioned that future exhibitions will be larger, according to KosovaPress.

“Pristina is my second home. It is a special place for my heart because here I have met many friendly and welcoming people. They are extremely friendly. Now I have many friends, colleagues. I have the opportunity to continue my work as a journalist and realize myself as an artist… It’s unexpected for me, but so far everything has been sold. And I feel that I should paint more and more because many people want to buy them. The next exhibition, I think, will be bigger. I have some Ukrainian colleagues, volunteers. They are helping the Ukrainian army,” said Makey.

The Ukrainian journalist and artist, who has been staying in Pristina for some time, said that this place is a “wonderful love for her.”

She emphasized that when she paints, she heals by dreaming of peace in her homeland, Ukraine.

“Pristina is my wonderful love. So, I draw a lot of inspiration from my friends, from the beautiful nature, from Germia Park. You know, it’s very difficult when you read sad news from Ukraine every day. And every shot and bombing leaves a hole in my heart. So, when I paint, I heal. I dream of peace, of love, of happiness in our families,” Makey pointed out.

Erblina Kransiqi from the non-governmental organization Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) said that this two-day event by Makey helps refugees acclimatize to the country and release their emotions through art, as reported by KosovaPress.

The solo exhibition “Bright on Black” is open today and on Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

This exhibition is the third in a row by Ukrainian journalist Lyudmila Makey.
