A medical team from Italy is staying in Kosovo, which will assist Kosovar doctors in treating those infected with COVID-19. Their arrival in Kosovo is seen as a continuation of the assistance provided by the Italian state and KFOR to Kosovo.
In a meeting that this Tuesday the Prime Minister of Kosovo Avdullah Hoti had with the KFOR Commander Michele Risi, the Italian Ambassador to Kosovo Nicola Orlando and the medical team from Italy, said that KFOR and Italy have proved that they are in support of the citizens of Kosovo.
The Head of Government said that the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic is under control, because the number of new cases with COVID-19 has decreased. However, he said that they should continue to be careful.
Hoti: KFOR has proven to be in support of the citizens of Kosovo
“KFOR has proved that it is in support of the citizens of Kosovo with all its capacities in maintaining order, security, but also in support of the fight against the pandemic. The doctors who stayed with their colleagues here in Kosovo made an assessment of the situation and we had a very substantive discussion now to get their assessments from the mission in Kosovo. As you know Italy has been seriously affected by this pandemic since the first weeks, and I believe they are a place from which we can learn how to manage this situation. We are slowly creating the necessary capacities, so we will be extremely careful in the measures we will take in the coming days and weeks,” said Hoti.
While, the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy in Kosovo, Nicola Orlando, said that the presence of the Italian medical team in Kosovo is an example of cooperation between the two countries.
He said that the medical team consists of all units of the Italian forces and will stay for several weeks in Kosovo.
Orlando: It is a pleasure for us to cooperate with Kosovar institutions
“As you know, the mission of Italian doctors here is the biggest mission that Italy is doing outside Italy regarding the coronavirus pandemic, which means that this mission is done exactly in Kosovo. The medical team is composed of all the units of the Italian forces that have been here in the country for 1 month and will stay for a few more weeks in the country. It is a pleasure for us to cooperate with Kosovo institutions, as well as with the health staff, with the population and as the Prime Minister said, the situation has improved, but there is still a risk. We advise you all to be careful and follow the basic rules, wash your hands, keep your distance, put on your masks,” he said.
Meanwhile, KFOR Commander, Michele Risi, said that they have been present in Kosovo for 21 years to help Kosovo, and he said that they are doing this even now when the country is facing the COVID-19 pandemic.
Innovation: KFOR has been here with you for 21 years to face all challenges
“KFOR has been here with you for 21 years to face all the challenges we have had together so far and the latest is the current pandemic. Many of the challenges this pandemic has posed have not been part of the challenges that KFOR usually deals with. Precisely for this because we do not have all the capacities, we have asked the member countries to send their help and this request has been answered by the Italian state by sending the medical staff here. This means that NATO and all member states have sent invitations to all countries to come here and help Kosovo face the pandemic,” he said.
The Italian medical team was also received by the Acting Director of HUCSK Valbon Krasniqi and the Minister of Health Armend Zemaj. /KosovaPress/
