KosovaPress News Agency has officially been accepted as a full member of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA), where the General Assembly of EANA is holding its proceedings. This is an important day for the media and the Republic of Kosovo.

KosovaPress (Kosovo), MIA (North Macedonia) and Armenpress (Armenia) applied to be part of this organization. The meeting this time is being held in Zurich, Switzerland.
From 32 member countries, (after the start of the war in Ukraine, the news agency of Russia, TASS has been suspended), 27 news agencies participated. KosovaPress received 25 votes (24 votes were necessary), thus becoming the 33rd member of the European Alliance of News Agencies (https://www.newsalliance.org).

What is EANA?
The European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) was founded on August 21, 1956 in connection with a conference on new media technology held in Strasbourg. In 1970, agencies behind the so called “iron curtain” were invited to join. EANA´s predecessor Agences Alliées was founded in 1924 and was active until the World War II when the activities were discontinued.
EANA serves as a forum for cooperation and exchange of information and experiences among European news agencies. The news agency business constitutes the very basics of news gathering and distribution. It is a business that needs a healthy environment abounding in freedom of the press, fair competition and simple and basic rules to operate. The members of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) are engaged in the promotion and the preservation of this environment.
KosovaPress is the 33rd member of EANA and will continue to contribute to the mission of the European Alliance of News Agencies.
KosovaPress part of ABNA-SEE since 2017
KosovaPress has already made history in the Association of the Balkan News Agencies – Southeast Europe (ABNA-SE) since its membership in 2017. In addition to its contributions to the further qualitative improvement of ABNA-SE, it also organized the 29th Assembly of this Association, taking the one-year Presidency, which it handed over weeks ago to the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).
In September 2021, KosovaPress brought all the Balkan and Southeast European news agencies to Prishtina, making Kosovo the center of news agencies, where for almost a week their role in the post-COVID-19 period was discussed.
During the Presidency of KosovaPress, the Association of the Balkan News Agencies – Southeast Europe (ABNA-SE) managed to obtain legal status by registering its headquarters in Sofia, Bulgaria. Officially, KosovaPress is one of the founding agencies of ABNA-SE, giving a great contribution to the approval of the statute. Currently, KosovaPress is a member of the ABNA-SE board together with Greece and Turkey.
