The case of the rape of the 11-year-old once again highlighted the clashes and disagreements between the Ministry of Justice and the Prosecutorial and Judicial Council of Kosovo.
The statements of the Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, who requested the dismissal of the chief prosecutor of the Basic Prosecutor’s Office in Pristina, and other dismissals that were requested by the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, after the reports on the case of the rape of a minor, are seen as interference in the justice system in Kosovo.
The executive director at the Kosovo Institute for Justice (IKD), Ehat Miftaraj, says that despite the fact that the judicial and prosecutorial systems are facing a lack of accountability and integrity, political leaders should be careful with their statements about these two systems.
Miftaraj says that the reactions of the political leaders against the work of the two councils will also be evidenced in the progress report for this year, which they will consider as interference in the work of the prosecutorial and judicial system.
