Graham: International coordination is necessary in the face of Russian and Chinese disinformation

Russian and Chinese disinformation represent a global problem that requires coordination and concerted engagement between states and international organizations, says Ben Graham, a consultant specializing in new challenges to election integrity.

This cooperation, he emphasizes, is necessary to build information integrity.

On the other hand, the elections in Kosovo, held on February 9, were not spared by Russian disinformation either. There were headlines with manipulative content throughout the campaign.

The European Union mission emphasized that “RT Balkan” and “Sputnik Serbia” alone have published about 60 articles about the elections in Kosovo, with a narrative of manipulation against the Serbian community.

“Russian disinformation is a global challenge and it is a reality that every country has to face. We have disinformation from a wide range, which is increasingly coordinated. So we see, for example, perversions of information that are sometimes also amplified by Chinese networks, so we see an increased level of global coordination. But, when it comes to Balkans specifically, there are many organizations working in this area within the region, I think it would be appropriate to talk within these dynamics,” he says.
